Festive cheer from Mundo team.

Greetings to everyone from Nong Khai.

It has been a turmoilous year here at Mundo Exchange.  We’ve had many projects spanning across many areas of need, a lot of good hearted volunteers dedicated to improving the quality of life for the people involved in their placements and a massive level of dialogue with the people of Thailand which has culminated in the soon to be opened culture centre in Beung Khan which reflects upon the slowly diminishing traditional Thai way of life.

I think it would be fair to say that 2009 has brought about a lot of change for the better. Our partnership work with Caitlin Gable established great bridges with the wonderfully warm people of Guatemala and helped create inroads to under-represented communities which receive very little, if at all any,  support with their development. We look forward to seeing a blossoming relationship full of conversation grow where we can learn from each other and continue the challenge of educating communities with healthcare, eco-projects, life skills, English language classes and other solutions which will help create sustainable communities while absorbing the traditions of the mountain town of Chajul and surrounding areas.

We are hoping to have some pockets of development in the Dominican Republic open up in the near future and are thrilled at the chance to explore the culture and learn about its rich history.  We hope to share our knowledge and are enthusiastic about seeing how the perception of its citizens varies from those of the North, Thailand and Guatemala. Being part of an island will surely be reflected in the music, cooking and beliefs of the Dominican people.

We have revamped our website and are resolved to making it as accessible to people from all over the world as possible. Our Thai team members are being trained in Web 2.0 methods and will be much more visible across the site. We are working with Open Source technologies to promote the ideals of Open Education and computing in areas of deprivation. We appreciate the ground-breaking work that paid software does; we support it fully and can’t condone piracy.  However in places where people live on less than a dollar a day it is hard to justify paying prices that are perceived as high by local standards.

We hope that this time next year we will have many more stories and a more fluid interaction with our visitors. We truly appreciate every effort that strives towards making this world a better place and thank each and every person who has helped us become who we are today. In this time of reflection it is always good to hear what others have to say – even if you would rather not hear it- so please, comment below or email us with any suggestions you have that might make our organisation a better one.

Happy holidays!
