The Vice-President of the Dominican Republic,Rafael Alburquerque, has upgraded his personal site to an HTML5 site which is both bold and impressive in it’s presentation.

A little known secret amongst us lurkers of the internet with community development values is that the additional tags and protocols surrounding HTML5 will allow for a better flow of traffic, and possibly funding, due to its refined way of interacting with browsers and search engines. Whilst his WordPress blog doesn’t seem too overwhelming when compared to other more cutting edge sites he is setting a precedent (or is that Vice-precedent) for how countries which could benefit from embracing Open Source and innovative technologies should do so to stand apart and take moderate risks in highlighting their campaigns and social struggles.
This is another example of how technology can be utilised and promoted to bring ears to voices which may otherwise go unnoticed. It’s also an example of how a web develop worker’s job is never done – now if only we could get everyone to understand how HTML4, APIs and Social Networking works before we have to drag them into HTML5 and the unknown which lies beyond it.
