Royal Plowing and Farmers Day (Kan Phuetchamongkhon)

May 13, 2011

Ancient Royal Family, Brahmin Priests and Thai farmer ceremony of planting of rice. It is a semi religious holiday that dates back over 700 years. There are events at the Grand Palace which is overseen by the King or crowned Prince and other ceremonies throughout the Kingdom where the first seeds of rice for the next year are planted. In Isaan, as is elsewhere in Thailand, rice is very important and is very much appreciated as the food of Thailand – its planting is a respected and fun time to celebrate.
