Some of out donors funds go towards supporting adult literacy and education in Guatemala. Below is a letter to Juanita from ASEPA, the adult literacy program that Mundo Exchange helps fund.
The collaboration between Mundo, St. Leo’s and ASEPA adult literacy program is thriving thanks to the good heartedness of the congregation from Oakland and the hard work of the teachers and students in Guatemala City and surrounding towns. Since COVID closed down so many schools, the children are now attending classes alongside their mothers, fathers and grandparents!
Below is the original letter in Spanish, followed by the English translation.

QUERIDA JUANITA:
GRACIAS, AMIGOS Y AMIGAS…

Dear Joan,
It’s a pleasure to hear from you and to know that you always carry us in your heart. Here in Guatemala we continue forward, among despair, poverty and needs, situations that are not unknown to you. But we are also strengthened by the fierce love of life that comes from the heart of the people with whom we work who, despite a daily struggle due to their economic and health situation, get up every day to follow the path of survival.
We read on the MUNDO EXCHANGE.ORG.GT website, so simple and profound, “all children have the right to education”. That’s right- all the girls, boys, young people and adults, even senior citizens, have the right to education, have the right to dream of another way of living a future more enlightened by justice.
Thank you for your support, and thanks to MARILYN HOMVITZ AND THE PARISH OF ST. LEO’S. We shared with you a report of the most recent activities we carried out in 2022 and what we are already doing this year. This has been possible with the support of people with hearts full of empathy who put their shoes on to walk together in solidarity with people who, despite living in poverty and cannot afford much, make an effort to attend school and educate themselves in their daily lives.
THANK YOU, FRIENDS….
