We have recently launched our Fresh Start For New Moms campaign! Our goal is to go to the local hospital at least once every month and pass out “new mom” packages to women who have just given birth. The packages include 3 or 4 sets of newborn outfits (including onesies) and a hat to keep them warm. A member of the local community here in Buengkan just yesterday donated something that was huge on our wish list: re-usable diapers/swaddling cloth!

Many of these mothers are coming from rural villages and live in poverty, and poverty is a major contributing factor in postpartum depression. One of our main goals with this project is to alleviate some of the stress of being a new mom, both psychologically and financially. New clothes for the new baby helps moms feel like they are able to provide the best for their new baby, and it gives them one less thing to worry about for a while. The re-usable diapers is especially exciting! Instead of paying for single use diapers, which aren’t great for neither the environment nor the wallet, mom’s have the alternatiive of using a diaper that can be washed and used again and again.

So far we have visited the hospital twice, and we have met with grateful moms, aunties, grandmas, and nurses both times. The new fathers are either not in the picture anymore or they are out working to try and save money so they can raise a child. Huge thank you to the Price family and friends for donating all the baby clothes! With your continued donations we can continue to provide moms with a fresh start for their newborns.

Please donate today to help women in poverty raise children with the most opportunities for success. If you would like to donate baby clothing, supplies, or other material goods, please contact me at kayla@mundoexchange.org .
