We are offering a unique volunteer opportunity in a secondary school to the right volunteer!

  • This opportunity is 1 month

  • Location: a rural village near Nong Khai Province, Thailand

  • Position open

  • Cost: $200-400USD

This placement with a secondary school is almost entirely independent of Mundo Exchange, we are simply acting as the middle man to find the school a volunteer. Upon arrival into Buengkan, representatives of Mundo Exchange will pick you up and bring you to the school for orientation.

Unlike most of our past placements, we are not responsible for the necessary paperwork for your visas and work permits, that is between you and the school. If you and the school agree to continue after one month and you wish to extend your time, you will no longer be under the care or responsibility of Mundo Exchange in any way.

We facilitate pick up, accommodation. arrangements, one weekend outing, and orientation; once orientation is over it is the responsibility of the school to help you obtain a work permit and visa extensions. If there are any major emergencies or conflicts between the school and the volunteer, we will be willing to assist if intervention is needed. In this particular case, we have been asked by a teacher to assist his small school in  finding a volunteer. We have worked with this teacher in the past and have personally gone to discuss with the director and teachers the expectations and believe it will be an excellent placement!

Who would be the ideal applicant for this position?

Village life in Thailand tends to be slow and quiet. When the sun goes down a lot of the shops close up and families spend time together at home. If you are someone who thrives on activities, clubs, sports, and nightlife – this might not be the right position for you!

We are looking for someone who:

*Can manage living in rural settings without needing the distractions of the city.
*Feels comfortable navigating your way though  language barriers. Teachers at the school and some community members can speak basic English, but it will be a learning curve for both you and Thais as you learn to communicate with each other!
*Shows enthusiasm (the students love to sing and play games!)
*Has a good sense of humor and is flexible.
*Can work both independently and in a group, and is self motivated.

What your fee covers:

  • Travel from Buengkan to placement
  • Orientation
  • Homestay and placement set up
  • One (1) weekend outing
  • Emergency availability and liason in case of unresolvable conflicts

Costs you are responsible for:

  • Travel from your home country to Buengkan, Thailand
  • Travel to and from your placement (after orientation) if you choose to go on holidays or extra weekend getaways
  • All of your own expenses during school holidays and vacation times
  • Initial 3 month visa (obtained in your home country before arrival into Thailand), visa extensions, and work permit
  • Meals – a meal on the street is 40-80 baht (1-3 USD)
  • Any vaccines or medication you will need for travel
  • Health insurance (travel insurance is acceptable!)
  • *Police background check

*You will be working with kids and we like to take every step possible to protect vulnerable populations such as children and keep them safe. The school we are connecting you to is requesting the volunteer has a background check and we fully agree with and support the school’s decision.

This position is open for all applicants.

Once we receive your application and review it, we will then ask you to send us your resume, a letter of recommendation, a cover photo. and a police background check.

Only after receiving and clearing these forms will you be approved for consideration. This is a very small school and they don’t have the resources or finds to hire a foreign teacher. The students are so excited to have an English speaker to talk with and learn from!

We look forward to hearing from you.
